Il castello di Guardia fu fatto edificare presumibilmente dal normanno Raone, capostipite dei Sanframondo, nel 1139. Il restauro, effettuato tra il 1980 ed il 1985 ha posto in massima evidenza la sua vocazione di 'vedetta' sulla sottostante valle e di 'rifugio' inaccessibile per naturale difesa. La maestosità e l'imponenza di questo manufatto, valorizzate con il restauro e consolidamento, restano intatte tutt'oggi, maestosità ed imponenza dovute anche al fascino che deriva dalla mole enorme di pietre più o meno squadrate che si dispongono a grosso parallelepipedo su un altrettanto enorme macigno naturale di roccia calcarea alto oltre venti metri. Nel complesso del castello restaurato hanno trovato sede: Un ‘teatro all'aperto', con palco in parete naturale, capace di circa 600 posti a sedere; vi si accede dal ‘giardino pensile' attraversando un arco a tutto sesto che si apre ai piedi dell'unica torre rotonda superstite;La ‘sala mostre', una strutture posizionate su tracce della muratura esistente, da cui si accede, per una originale scaletta incassata nella roccia, alla ‘torre quadrata' di vetta e poi ancora fino alla ‘fontana del castello' in Via Portella. La ‘sala panoramica' attrezzata per convegni con capienza di 150 posti a sedere; La ‘ collezione di farfalle', dono degli eredi dell'Avvocato Pascasio Parente, appassionato entomologo guardiese, collezione che in 56 bacheche raccoglie ed espone oltre 1.000 esemplari tra i più belli ed interessanti e provenienti da ogni parte del mondo... donazione che, a tutt'oggi, non sembra trovare allocazione alcuna...
